Summary:   Attiucs Finch was a loving father of two, a son Jeremy (Jem), and a daughter Jean Louise (Scout). Attiucs was an honorable defense lawyer for his town and part of the State Legislative. Atticus accepts a case for an accused black rapist, Tom Robinson. Atticus has more than just Tom Robinson to defend; he must defend his self morals and family in "To Kill a Mockingbird," by Harper Lee.

Atticus accepts a case for an accused black rapist, Tom Robinson. Being part of the state Legislative and a great lawyer makes Atticus an important public figure for the town. He is an older man, in his 50's and is nearly blind in one eye, so he must were glasses. He is a great teacher and has a lot of common sense as well as book smarts. Through the story Atticus teaches his children through other's mistakes and poor behavior. Atticus' wife had passed when both the children were very young and left him alone to raise them. The only tough thing about this was the Jem and Scout seemed to always be getting in trouble.

When Atticus is asked to take the rape case he accepts without much thought. Atticus, being the kind man he was, knew that their maid Calpurnia (a black woman) went to church with Tom Robinson. Atticus had a big challenge ahead of him; defend a black man accused of raping a young white girl. And what made things worse were the time and setting of this story. It was the 1930's and a very stereotypical southern town, Maycomb, Alabama. When the townsmen hear of Tom Robinson, they marched through town to break him out of jail and hang him then and there.
