War unit evaluation
In this unit we have been looking at different issues emotional and political that surrounds war.
For one of our first lessons we were looking at a propaganda poster.   The poster shows a family who is watching the soldiers march off to war. The status is clear; the soldiers have the high status because they are commanding everything that’s happening even though they are small in the picture they are the main reason for what’s happening. The baby would probably have the lowest status as he may not really know what’s happening and he may need the mother or sister to explain. The mother and sister have the same sort of status as they are very close in the picture and have the same sort of body language. The main emotion displayed in this picture I think is from the family, it shows unity between them as they are close together and are all displaying the same emotions with their bodies and the way they are looking out on to the soldiers shows that they are all feeling sorrow and worry, the child may want some attention as he is clinging to the sister like he wants to know what’s happening and isn’t used to not being the centre of attention.
In the piece my group created about this poster, I was a soldier about to go to war and I was saying goodbye to my family and getting ready for the war with my friend. I developed my character by trying to get a strong relationship with the family rather than the friend most of the piece was me speaking to my family. I conveyed the emotion mainly with my words, I spoke honestly and lovingly to my wife but with the children I was a bit more tentative and reluctant to say what was happening. This showed that my character didn’t really want to leave his family but had to because the country needed him.
After that we listened to a George Michael song called ‘Mother’s Pride’. The song was about a mother losing her son to war who had already lost her husband. We then used teacher in role as a hot seat as the...
