THE ROMAN EMPIRE
The Roman Empire was one of the most famous, long-lived of the ancient world. The Emperor Hadrian strengthened The Roman Empire other things such as The Roman Army, roads and trade also helped this to sucess. Trade and moving the Roman Army around were the two reasons for building roads. All the romans had the same idea of how things should be there. The main goal was for the Roman Empire to expand their territory while having happiness and letting everyone contribute.
The roads were built by soldiers also the Roman Slaves and prisoners of war were used to build the Roman Road Network. The roads were built in layers and a base of sand, on top of that was broken concrete and stone then another layer of sand and lime. The road was surfaced with blocks on stone set in the concrete. These roads were built for military travel, was appropriate to walk in bear foot on, for the marching Roman Soldiers also used for wheeled carts to transport goods. It helped with communications and efficient for the troupes, people goods and horseback, and every 10-12 miles there were rest stops.
The roman army, was originally used for protection, they felt they needed to protect themselves, as they fought and won they felt as if they should take over the land around them and with that new land they had more strength. The romans weapons were another reason why they conquered so much land. Some of the weapons they had include ballistas, catapults, swords, spears, siege towers, shields and armor.
The Romans were great traders. Olive oil and wine were very important to the Ancient Romans and were traded all over the Roman Empire. The Romans traded goods by importing goods from other countries they raised their standard of living and were able to have many luxuries. Their primary trading partners were countries in the Middle East, France, Spain, Brittania (Great Britain), and North Africa. They also imported silk from China.
