Why Did War Break Out in 1939?

War broke out in Europe in 1939 due to many different reasons. The Treaty of Versailles gave all of the blame on Germany for World War I, forcing Germany to pay for all of the damages of the war. Caused the German economy to collapse, which then caused hyperinflation.   This forced the German Kaiser to abdicate his throne leading to the Wiemar Republic. With the Republic not doing anything to get Germany out of their economic depression, people like Adolf Hitler saw an opportunity to gain power. After the 1932 German national elections the Nazi party held majority in the Riechstag and Hitler was claimed Chancellor after losing the Presidential election to Paul von Hindenburg. After a few years Hitler began rearming the Wehrmacht and also ruthlessly demanding territory Germany lost in The Great War. By 1938 with Germany having gained all of its territory and having annexed Austria and Czechoslovakia, Hitler set his sights on Poland, and Hitler not believing that Britain or France would declare war on Germany if they invaded Poland, he ordered his troops to invade Poland on September 1, 1939.   Also Hitler was a contributor as Hitler started building up his army merely days after being appointed leader in 1933.   He tried to keep this a secret at first as the Treaty of Versailles had forbidden Germany to attain an army exceeding more than one hundred thousand men, however in 1935 the Nazi’s stopped hiding these plans. Then in the year 1936 Hitler brought in Conscription.   This meant that Hitler had a bigger army then Britain which allowed him to take over the Rhineland and this led to appeasement.
Appeasement was another big factor as it gave Hitler encouragement to take more and more land. Chamberlain had hated the horrors of losing so many men during the First World War and decided that the only way to prevent another war was to sign a policy of appeasement towards Hitler.   It showed Chamberlain as weak as Hitler was walking all over him.   During appeasement...
