Topic Sentence: Is General David Paetreus going to make improvements in Afghanistan?

Afghanistan is a nation torn by decades of warfare and conflict. On the 11th of June 2009 the war in Afghanistan has become the longest war in U.S history. Ever since the dismissal of General Stanley McChrystal, General David Paetreus has taken his role of commander of US and ISAF forces in Afghanistan.   The change of command was prompted by comments made about the Obama administration and their policies in Afghanistan during an interview in Rolling Stones magazine. Stanley McCrystal said that ‘I would rather be brutally beaten by a handful of 20 odd men then have dinner with President Obama.’ Ever since the change of command General David Paetreus has provided his visions and goals to the NATO commanders, members of his command and his Afghan partners. Since Paetreus has entered Afghanistan he has already convinced the corrupt Afghan president to establish local forces, and set up camps for U.S Special Forces in the rural areas of Afghanistan to train up to 10,000 freedom fighters to crush and punish the Taliban.

General David Paetreus is a well-respected man within the eyes of his soldiers, U.S military and high-ranking government officials. Paetreus was a top graduate from the U.S prestigious United States Military Academy or West Point. Paetreus first saw combat commanding the 101st Airborne Division during V Corp’s drive to Baghdad. Paetreus was successful on improving the living standards of Iraq. Such as improving the global economy building local security forces and staging elections for the city council within weeks upon his arrival. He was nicknamed ‘King David’ by some of his colleagues. Paetreus was very successful in his siege of Iraq, however the standards in Afghanistan prove to be much harsher and prove complicated.
