The city of Jerusalem was captured by the muslims, which began the First of eight crusades. The crusades were a series of attacks during Medieval England in order to regain control of the city. The Christians found that there was no other place as important as Jerusalem. Christians believed Jerusalem was so important for several reasons such as, Jesus was born near by in bethleham, spent most of his life there, and was crucified. There,It is also named the “City of God”. However, Jerusalem is revered in Muslim tradition because , Muhammad miraculously traveled to Jerusalem by night and ascended from there into heaven. They built a beautiful dome named “The Dome of the Rock” around where it was said that Muhammad sat and prayed. It is so holy that no musilum could tred on the rock or touch it. During the eleventh century, however, Christian pilgrims to the Holy Land became especially concerned and aggravated when the Seljuk Turks mascured 3000 people on pilgimige.
Pope Urban II called for a Crusade in 1095, responding to a request from the Emperor of Constantinopl for the help of mestionress, crstians and knights to come and for military help against the Seljuk Turks. Urban saw the possibilites in this request for example and gaining glory for the church and reducing europes warfare against enmeys.he gathered his followers outside the French city of Clermont-Ferrand in southern france. He preached to these people and told them that action needed to be taken. In response, the people cheered and planned their attack. Urban II brought together all of the bishops and urged them to talk to their friends and fellow villagers and to encourage them to participate in the crusades.
