ALL-INDIA ESSAY WRITING EVENT 2012
In pursuance of its commitment to the moral, ethical and spiritual development of the youth, Shri Ram Chandra Mission [SRCM], an educational and spiritual service organization in collaboration with The United Nations Information Centre for India and Bhutan [UNIC] is organizing an All- India Essay Writing Competition.

The Competition is organized for two categories of students:
Category 1 [class 11 - 12] (1000 words) Begin to be now what you will be hereafter Something to think about: o If it is necessary for us to change to become what we want to be, why not initiate that change immediately. o That which needs to be done should be done at the earliest.

Category 2 [UG and PG] (1000 words) What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us. – Ralph Waldo Emerson Something to think about: o Are we more concerned with what is around us than what is within us? o Can the world around us help us to understand what we ought to be as human beings or do we need to go deeper into ourselves to realise our true nature?

Detailed Evaluation Criteria
I. Introduction /Interpretation: Weight 10% o The students should be able to articulate his/her particular understanding of the topic. o Effectiveness of the opening. II. Structure and Flow: Weight 10% o The continuity of ideas and smoothness of the transition between ideas. III. Language: Weight 15% o Grammar, spelling, clarity and style of expression. IV. Creativity / Originality: Weight 25% o Originality of ideas o Examples, real life observations, personal experiences and o Novel ways of expressing ideas.

V. Relevance: Weight 20 % o Relevance of ideas to the topic. VI. Research /attention to details: Weight 10% o Extensive research on various philosophies/ideologies relevant to the topic. o Depth of ideas expressed.

VII. Conclusion: Weight 10% o Ability of the student to articulate his/her stance. An important criterion for evaluation...
