Reunification Hall

One of the most famous beautiful places in Ho Chi Minh City is Reunification Hall. It is in 135 Nam Ky Khoi Nghia Street, District 1, HCMC. It was formerly known as "Reunification Palace" or "Independence Palace" and was the home and workplace of the Presidents of South Vietnam during the Vietnam War (1954 - 1975).

It was designed by architect Ngo Viet Thu who won the First Grand Prize of Rome. Construction began in 1962 after the old palace - Norodom Palace had been destroyed by two pilots of President. It was completed in 1966.

It is located (situated in) an area of 12 hectares with a spacious gardens covered by green trees and a lawn and fences around. In front of the Hall is a big main gate which was bulldozed through by a tank of The Liberation Army of the Republic of South Vietnam, ending the Vietnam War. It has 3 main floors, 1 terrace, 2 mezzanines, substratum, 2 basements and a terrace for helicopter landing.
The facade of the palace is decorated with a stylized architectural style of the bamboo's internodes which are seen at curtains of traditional houses in Vietnam and motifs of ancient pagodas in Vietnam.

There are more than 100 rooms including living rooms, meeting rooms, bedrooms, entertaiment rooms, kitchen, a big dinner room and a small cinema inside the Hall. The rooms and walls are decorated by many lacquer paintings and oil paintings. There are a couple of elephant tusks in the President's living room. The tusks are very famous with mysterious stories.

You can go up to the roof of the Hall by lift or stair. You'll be able to see two signs which mark the places which were attacked by Nguyen Thanh Trung, a famous pilot in 1972. And from here you can look over the large yard in front of the Hall where many cultural events are often organized here.

It is opened from 7:30 to 11:00 in the morning and from 13:00 to 16:00 in the afternoon every day. The ticket is 30,000 VND for adult, 15,000 VND for student and 3,000...
