Have you ever felt you had to dress a certain way or you would not be acceptable? Aunt Alexandra wants Scout to dress like a young lady to be respectable, but Scout thinks she can dress as she would like and still be a respectable person. One reason is she can do anything any other woman can in a dress. Also, there are no girls her age. And the most important, it is a free country.

Also, to be accepted by her friends she has to dress like them, in jeans and t-shirts, not dresses.

Aunt Alexandra has no say in how she dresses, but as an aunt and motherly figure to Scout, she does. Otherwise, Scout should be able to dress how she wants because it is a free country.

Scout wants to dress as her friends do, in overalls and t-shirts. If Aunt Alexandra were to make her dress in dresses and act...
