  1. Pollution- A threat to healthy life
The natural environment of our planet Earth has been designed to sustain life. The environment provides us with air to breath, food to eat, water to drink, clothes to wear and shelter. A healthy environment is very important for a healthy life.

Today’s world is the result of industrial growth and technological advancement. Though this has provided us progress and development, it has also resulted in a polluted environment. Pollution is the introduction of harmful pollutants into the environment which makes it unhealthy to live in.

Polluted air makes us unhealthy. Air gets polluted by burning of fossil fuels, smoke from vehicles and industries and deforestation.   Air pollution causes respiratory infections like bronchitis and asthma, heart diseases and lung cancer. The worst air pollution crisis of India was the Bhopal Disaster in 1984 where the vapours which leaked from the Union Carbide factory killed 25,000 people and injured more than 6,00,000 people.  

Polluted water is a threat to human lives as freshwater is vital for all living beings. Water pollution occurs when water bodies are contaminated. Water gets contaminated by defecation of humans and animals in water bodies, discharge of industrial wastes and city sewage into rivers and seas and also other human activities like bathing and washing clothes. Agricultural run offs is another major water pollutant as it contains fertilizers and pesticides. Consequently, fresh water resources are depleting very fast and water-borne diseases like typhoid, cholera, jaundice and dysentery are on the rise.

Soil pollution, noise pollution and radioactive pollution are other types of pollution which is a great threat to our life because it causes many fatal diseases. Hence various measures must be adopted to control pollution. Proper management of our natural resources is necessary for a cleaner and healthier environment. Pollution is harmful for all...
