                                  -AN INTELLIGENT GARMENT

In recent years, exciting technological advances have been made in development of flexible electronics. These technologies which offered the opportunity to weave computation, communication and storage into the fabric of clothing using nanotechnology led to the innovative designing of an intelligent fabric- THE SMART SHIRT .Nano Technology means configuring molecules to change in size and properties for enhancement as in the case of smart fabrics. This paper presents a WEARABLE MOTHERBOARD made of a soft, washable fabric with optical and electrical fibers woven into it. The Smart Shirt monitors the wearer's heart rate, respiration, temperature and other vital functions. The smart shirt provides a framework for incorporating sensors, monitors, and information processing devices and it could be used for any purpose that requires around the clock monitoring of vital statistics. Its most noble applications seem to be in the area of medical monitoring and telemedicine in particular, the Clinical Trials Monitoring, Athletics, Biofeedback and Military Uses. Readouts can be obtained via a wristwatch, PDA/smart phone, or voice. Biometric information is wirelessly transmitted to personnel. The healthcare system throughout the world is actively seeking new technologies to limit patient days in hospital, visits to the emergency room and to monitor homebound patients. The SMART SHIRT meets all the three constraints to be adapted to various health related applications mainly consisting of three lead EKG, heart rate monitor, and respiration monitor.
KEYWORDS: Biomedical parameters, optical fibers, wearable motherboard, communication interfaces.

The smart shirt is a breakthrough technology because it is the first unobtrusive and noninvasive way of monitoring vital statistics....
