Should the Media Descript Detailed Crimes?

Whether crimes should be depicted in detail by newspaper and television has been an ongoing debate. While it provides insights of certain criminal activities, some people argue that this can result in negative consequences as people can simply learn from such prescriptions systematically, leading to more crime incidence. Based on this, I believe that the detailed prescription of crime via media should be limited.

Children are regarded as more vulnerable, who are more likely to be influenced by such information, as they are not mature enough to distinguish right from wrong. Exciting scenes of crimes on TV, they may think this is something interesting and adventurous and then impersonate the criminal actions. On the other hand, the horror description of certain crimes can have unfathomed negative impact on children’s attitude towards their views and believes, which can adversely affect their mental and psychological development.

In addition, not only children but also adults can change their views of the communities and think in a pessimistic way, if more detailed crimes are released via the media. This may urge people to ask what kind of society we are living in. As a result, positive aspects may be ignored as people focus on the negative side highlighted by criminal description. Consequently, those people lose their trust in others that result in isolated and alienated relationships.

Summing up, I would concede that the detailed prescription of crimes may provide an extraordinary way to observe the criminal activities. However, the disadvantages created by recounting crimes far outweigh the advantages. Overall, I firmly believe that it is dispensable to restrict the elaborate criminal information on the media.
