My Bronze Expedition Log

We started our exhibition at Spelga dam on the Friday morning. We thought it was great getting a day off school to do our Duke of Edinburgh. We went to the school hall to get our kit checked and make sure we haven’t forgotten anything important . We were all buzzing and ready to go at this point and got on the mini bus that was taking us to Spelga. The journey lasted an hour or so and the whole time we were planning the easiest route up and where we would stop. My group we planning to get to camp first and get our tents up quickly and maximise our rest time. It all seemed like a great plan and we were all up for the long journey ahead.

We got to Spelga and the girls headed off first. Our aim was to catch up with them as soon as possible and use them as a pace setter to begin with. We headed off second and began our journey. We crossed the road and climbed over the extremely rocky gate. It was very windy and was beginning to rain. It was cold as well but as soon as we got started we started to warm up. We went up the big hill and stayed along the grassy top. We made sure we stayed on the flattest land possible to keep the walking easy on our ankles and make sure no one got hurt. We came to the first stile and noticed the terrain in the middle of this double stile crossing was rather muddy. I went first and pledged knee high in wet mud. I quickly got to safety and   made sure I didn’t get too wet. That was the worst possible start as I was already muddy in my waterproofs but it didn’t dampen my spirit and I managed to laugh off the unfortunate event.

We continued on across the hill and decided to start to walk down it as the grass where we were was very marshy and long. As we descended one of the people in our groups sleeping bag string snapped and so we had to reattach that to his bag before we continued on. This member of our group will hold us back a few times on this trip as you will find out later on. On our descent down the hill...
