Ineffective Meeting Scenario
      The first thing I noticed was the meeting did not start on time because they were sitting around waiting on the person that was supposed to be in charge. The leader of the meeting came in late on the phone and was coarse to the other staff member. The staff made it quite clear that they were tired of hearing about the bosses personal trips during the staff meeting instead of completing their agendas for their meetings. Then to have the leader come into a meeting and not know what this week’s staff meeting is supposed to be about is not a good sign.
      For a staff-leader to turn around and complain that another employee took the initiative to have an agenda set up for the staff meeting was vulgar on her part. She should have been thankful for the employee doing her work for her. To just sit there and keep looking at her watch was offensive actions toward her co-worker. The leader did not help with the structure of the meeting at all.
      Once Megan was able to talk and give the agenda and start to go over the great ideas, the leader got a phone call, and the meeting was cut short. It was evident that the present leader should not be in charge over the staff meetings.
      As a leader of the staff meeting, one of the first things I would have done was put my cell phone on silent. I would have been the first person at the meeting with an agenda in my hand ready to go. I would have personally welcomed each employee and gone over the agenda with the staff members. Then listen to their ideas and try to come to a majority decision.
      As the leader of the meeting, I feel that it is my responsibility to keep the meeting at a steady flow and a positive one at that. As the leader it is my job to summarize agreements reached and end the meeting on a unifying or positive note with at least some results to completing the task at hand. We are all being paid to work for a company and not there to talk about our personal lives. If...
